Richard Avedon was born in New York City to a jewish household. His dad was the owner of a dress business while his mother owned a dress manufacturing business both of them influenced his love for art and fashion. At age 12 he joined the young mens Hebrew association (YMHA) camera club. He attended Dewitt Clinton high school where he won a scholastic art and writing award and also wrote for the school newspaper. He attended Columbia University but ended up dropping out after 1 year to pursue a career in photography.
I chose him because the style he does. I find it interesting how he just has the person stand there and look at the camera but make it seem like its more and makes each picture different and unique.
He took a lot of pictures depicting social rights activists, politicians and and Americas discord and violence. Later he took pictures of the many protests of the Vietnam activists and the fall of the Berlin wall.
When i was taking my pictures i modeled a lot from him I think that a lot of my pictures look somewhat likes his portraits.
